Giovanni Quirici (9 May 1978)

Junior climbing champion of Switzerland in 1996, then member of the national climbing competition team, Giovanni Quirici decided to quit competition climbing in order to travel the world and scale the world's greatest walls. The key to his numerous successes in many different countries lies in his ability to balance his determination with being in tune with his body and mind. Sensitive to world and humanist, he considers the climbing rocks as the "temples of our planet". Hanging onto a tiny bit of rock by the tips of his fingers 1000 meters from the ground, he's learned to abstract himself from the void below him. He has been able to guard his presence of mind in extreme situations by assimilating his fears and becoming completely absorbed by the movements and the moment at hand. He received an equivalent of a master's degree in biology from the University of Geneva in 2003. His fascination for the mysteries of life led him to specialize in chronobiology, which studies the biorythms of living organisms. These studies impressed upon him a sense of the world immersed and controlled by its rhythms. As well combining his passion for climbing with his scientific interests, he is participating in several scientific expeditions. Giovanni Quirici shares his unique experiences in his conferences and audio-visual presentations. His presentation for the Swiss Alpine Club of Lausanne has been told a "common sense: images and food for thought" and he presents his point of view with "poetry and sentivitiy" according to Vertical Magazine. Believing in going to the limit to make his dreams become a reality, he encourages his audience to do the same for their own dreams. In 2008, he created the symbol Arium to reinforce this ideology.

It isn't about doing the impossible, but doing what we can to make the possible happen.
